The visitor who enjoys amateur radio may think that radio propagation from the Palau Island region could be a problem because of terrain. There are no obstacles to radio waves in the direction of a west-north-east, as these directions face the sea, and West Plaza by the Sea hotel does not have an obstacle toward Europe, Japan, and North America. There is a slightly elevated hill that can be seen in the direction of Australia, and toward the southern part of South America, the the southern part of Africa. This small hill does not have have any signficant influence on HF radio propagation. The hill to the south may influence 6m band signals when conditions are poor.

      As Palau is located very close to the equator, HF propagation is generally better than what is experienced at the higher northern or southern latitudes.
